Of those, 7 are titles that I previously\u00a0listed\u00a0in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/?p=477\" target=\"_blank\">Games I played in the summer of 2014<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>7 Wonders<\/li>\n<li>Hanabi<\/li>\n<li>Lord of the Rings: The Board Game<\/li>\n<li>Love Letter<\/li>\n<li>Puerto Rico<\/li>\n<li>Settlers of Catan<\/li>\n<li>Small World<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And 4 are titles that I listed in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/?p=621\" target=\"_blank\">Games I played in the fall of 2014<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alien Frontiers<\/li>\n<li>Bang! The Dice Game<\/li>\n<li>Machi Koro<\/li>\n<li>Village<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>New experiences<\/h2>\n<p>Of the 17 remaining titles, 6 were new games that I played for the first time this year. The better they are able to fulfill these requirements, the more points they will get. Manage your money well by purchasing the rooms that give you the most bang for the buck, and you may have the highest score (if not the most beautiful castle) at the end of the game. The catch is that you can lie about which cards you have, and perform abilities associated with a card you don&#8217;t possess. \u00a0If someone challenges you and catches you in a lie, then you lose a card. On the other hand, if you were telling the truth, then the challenger loses one of their cards. Lose both of your cards and you&#8217;re out of the game. The last player standing wins. This game is just numbers and colors, but there&#8217;s a ton of strategy. Each color indicates a different win\u00a0condition. Maybe you need to have the highest card, or maybe you need to have the most of a single number or color. Either play a card or change the goal each turn. If you aren&#8217;t winning at the end of your play, then you&#8217;re eliminated. If you are the only player left, then you win. While the games are similar, they are certainly not the exactly the same. Buy buildings and other locations with which to build your town. It works\u00a0surprisingly well. The team that cooperates\u00a0the best will be triumphant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_728\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-728\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Z-Man-Games-71470ZMG-Tragedy-Looper\/dp\/B00N3012GU\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440556535&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=tragedy+looper\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-728\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic2574413_md.jpg\" alt=\"Tragedy Looper\" width=\"500\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic2574413_md.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic2574413_md-300x165.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-728\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tragedy Looper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Z-Man-Games-71470ZMG-Tragedy-Looper\/dp\/B00N3012GU\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440556535&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=tragedy+looper\" target=\"_blank\">Tragedy Looper<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 I am the bad guy, trying to make some tragedy happen. My opponents\u00a0are the protagonists, trying to prevent the tragedy. I will succeed, and they will fail. The tragedy will occur. However, the protagonists are able to go back in time and try again. Use deductive reasoning to figure out what the tragedy is and how to prevent it. I love this game, but I haven&#8217;t yet found anyone else who enjoys it as much as I do.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Old favorites<\/h2>\n<p>The other games I have had in my collection for a while, and keep coming back to. Get three specific animals together to win. This game works great for adults and children alike.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_732\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-732\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tales-Of-The-Arabian-Nights\/dp\/B002HU4YXA\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440635394&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=arabian+nights+game\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-732\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic1911304_md.jpg\" alt=\"Tales of the Arabian Nights\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic1911304_md.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic1911304_md-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-732\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tales of the Arabian Nights<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tales-Of-The-Arabian-Nights\/dp\/B002HU4YXA\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440635394&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=arabian+nights+game\" target=\"_blank\">Tales of the Arabian Nights<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 This is more of a shared experience than a game. Winning or losing is almost completely meaningless. It&#8217;s the journey that makes this game fun. Draw a card and consult the manual to determine your foe. Decide your response to the challenge, and discover the results. It&#8217;s almost always a surprise. This is somewhat like a Choose Your Own Adventure book that you all experience together as a group, and it&#8217;s Nora&#8217;s favorite game.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_733\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-733\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Eagle-Games-101253N-Defenders-Realm\/dp\/B003L5CXW4\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440635845&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=defenders+of+the+realm\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-733\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic732029_md.jpg\" alt=\"Defenders of the Realm\" width=\"500\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic732029_md.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic732029_md-300x151.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-733\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Defenders of the Realm<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Eagle-Games-101253N-Defenders-Realm\/dp\/B003L5CXW4\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440635845&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=defenders+of+the+realm\" target=\"_blank\">Defenders of the Realm<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 This game isn&#8217;t mine. It belongs to my sister, Laurel, and I&#8217;m always excited to play it with her. All the players work together to defeat the evil hordes plaguing our realm. It&#8217;s a difficult task. So difficult, in fact, that after several plays, I still have never won the game once. I have fun trying, though.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-734\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Ape-Games-APE0720-Duck-Safari\/dp\/0966347668\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440635975&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=duck+duck+safari\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-734 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hentschels.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/pic585417.jpg\" alt=\"pic585417\" width=\"300\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">duck! duck! SAFARI!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Ape-Games-APE0720-Duck-Safari\/dp\/0966347668\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1440635975&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=duck+duck+safari\" target=\"_blank\">duck! duck! SAFARI!<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 This box has several games in it, and several rubber ducks as well. Each duck is a different animal: Elephant Duck, Zebra Duck, Monkey Duck, and so on. One player controls the French troops while the other controls the British. Ally with the Indians and raid or attack your opponent. Each side has different goals, and different means to those goals. One player controls\u00a0the older nuns: the Prioress and the Abbess. The other players are novices, trying to sneak through the abbey on various missions without getting caught. All the knights go on quests, and the evil knights secretly subvert the purposes of the good. If the good guys can ferret out the evil spies, then they will\u00a0succeed in their quests. Otherwise, evil will triumph. Strategies vary greatly from one hero character to another, and also from one villain to another. Unfortunately, your services are required well before any of you have achieved competency. You are to be sent, wholly unprepared, on a deadly mission. Each player has a role: Engineering, Weapons, Sensors, Helm, etc. All the roles must cooperate to be successful. Use deductive reasoning to determine when and where the thieves will strike.
