God & His Bible

Dan and I want this section of our home page to be a good place to find answers to questions about God & the Bible.  To begin with, I'd like to talk about what it means to be a child of God.  There seems to be a lot of confusion about this.  Contrary to popular belief, we are not all God's children.

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
 -Galatians 3:26

This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
 -I John 3:10

Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
 -Romans 8:17

That's pretty awesome.  If you think about it, wouldn't you rather be a child of God and joint heir with Christ rather than a child of the devil?  We hope so.

So how do you become a child of God?  It's simpler that most people would expect. It is by reaching out to God by faith, and faith alone.

A man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
 -Galatians 2:16

. . . not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us . .
 -Titus 3:5

Contrary to popular belief, nobody can become a child of God by "being good."   Most of us don't need a Bible verse to know that we've fallen short of perfect, but here's one anyway.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
 -Romans 3:23

If you'd like to become part of God's family, pray a prayer like this:

Dear Jesus, I know I'm not perfect.  I ask you to forgive me of my sins.  Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior, and Master of my life.  I ask these things in Jesus' name, Amen!

A prayer like that made with a sincere heart is what makes one permanently a child of God.  It's permanent even when (when, not if) we screw up again.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
 -Romans 8:1-2

If you've decided to follow Jesus, please e-mail Dan or I to let us know of your decision.  We would like to pray for you!  Congratulations on being "saved" "born again" or becoming a "child of God."  These all mean the same thing.  God bless you!

Who are the children of God?

Those who have reached out to God and accepted Jesus in their heart by faith.
